Jazz dance has essentially popular roots and developed within Black culture in parallel with jazz music in the United States of America. It has received countless influences, and today its mainstays are classical and contemporary dance techniques applied to musical theatre as well as pop and modern music.
It has other style variations such as: Modern Jazz Dance, Soul Jazz, Rock Jazz, Street Jazz, Feeling Jazz, Popular Jazz, Lyrical Jazz. All these styles are required of a good jazz dancer and it is based on this technical requirement that all the class work is structured.
